Nephrite is a reassuring, “quiet strength” stone—great for empaths and anyone rebuilding trust in themselves. Jade is the trade name given to two minerals - Nephrite Jade and Jadeite.
Nephrite is not the same as jadeite; it’s a tough, interlocked amphibole aggregate (tremolite–actinolite series: Ca₂(Mg,Fe)₅Si₈O₂₂(OH)₂). This micro-fibrous “felted” structure gives nephrite its legendary toughness (resists breakage) despite Mohs 6–6.5 hardness. Typically waxy to silky lustre, RI ~1.61, SG ~2.9–3.1, and colours from creamy “mutton-fat” white to olive and deep green (iron increases green); black varieties often contain magnetite/graphite. It forms in metasomatic zones where serpentinite interacts with calcium-rich rocks under low-to-moderate metamorphic conditions. Key sources include China (Xinjiang/Hetian), New Zealand (pounamu), British Columbia (Canada), Siberia (Russia), and parts of USA.

MOH's hardness: 6-6.5

Although a tough stone, it is prone to scratching if not cared for properly.
