SCIENCE
Hessonite Garnet is a variety of Grossular Garnet, a calcium aluminium silicate within the Garnet group. Its warm honeyed to cinnamon-orange colour is typically caused by traces of iron and manganese, giving it the glowing tones that have earned it the nickname cinnamon stone.
Belonging to the cubic crystal system, these crystals may form in rounded dodecahedral habits and, like other garnets, they are singly refractive and do not show pleochroism. Hessonite is admired for its rich internal character and distinctive warmth, making it one of the most recognisable orange to brownish-orange garnets.
