HEALING

This is a cooling, clarifying ally for the mind and throat. When thoughts are racing or you’re second-guessing yourself, place the stone at the throat and breathe until your shoulders drop. It harmonises insight with expression, supporting conversations that are truthful and kind, not sharp. Journal with it nearby to translate intuition into clear language, or keep it bedside to unwind mental chatter before sleep. For sensitives, it offers a gentler way to hold boundaries: fewer words, more centred presence. Used consistently, indigo tourmaline cultivates lucid awareness and the confidence to voice what you know.

SCIENCE

Blue/indigo tourmaline is typically elbaite (sometimes termed indicolite): Na(Li,Al)₃Al₆(BO₃)₃Si₆O₁₈(OH)₄, trigonal. Key values: Mohs 7–7.5, RI ~1.614–1.666, SG ~3.0–3.1, strong pleochroism (deep blue ↔ green-grey). Colour in indicolite is primarily due to Fe²⁺/Fe³⁺; copper-bearing elbaite (Paraíba-type) is distinct. Crystals are strongly striated prisms with rounded triangular cross-sections, often showing zonal colour and complex growth. Tourmaline is pyro- and piezoelectric, accumulating charge under heat/pressure—one reason it’s historically used in early scientific instruments. Afghanistan’s Nuristan pegmatites produce fine, saturated blues; some stones may be heat- or irradiation-modified, so disclosure is standard in trade.

Mohs Hardness Scale: 7.5

SOURCING ETHICS & VALUES

At Uluna, we are deeply committed to offering crystals that are not only beautiful but also ethically sourced and of the highest quality. Ethical sourcing means ensuring that the crystals we provide are mined under fair conditions, respecting both the environment and the workers involved. We also recognise that many crystals undergo processes like cutting and polishing in  factories far away from their mined locations, so we remain diligent about maintaining our integrity throughout the supply chain sourcing locally and directly where possible.

Our dedication to quality is upheld by our in-house gemmologist, who brings over 15 years of expertise to every piece we offer. Each crystal is carefully tested, correctly identified, and certified as natural, with any treatments fully disclosed. Unlike lab-grown or misrepresented stones often sold as natural, our crystals are authentic and come with an authenticity card, guaranteeing their provenance and purity so you can feel safe with each purchase. For us, ethics and quality are non-negotiable values.
