Watermelon Tourmaline is a coloured variety of the Elbaite Species of tourmaline, owing it's colour to elements within the chemical composition - iron, manganese and titanium.

Colour: Pink centre, green outer when cut perpendicular to the c-axis.

Common geological occurrences: Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, Sri Lanka and USA. 

Crystallography: Forms as prismatic crystals showing striations down the length of the crystal and are typically singly terminated. 

Commonly found in association with Quartz, Calcite and Mica minerals and commonly as an inclusion of other minerals (Quartz, Aquamarine).

Whilst tourmaline is quite durable they are still prone to scratching. Their matrix is soft and delicate and mist be handles with care.
