HEALING

Gypsum, with its gentle, translucent crystalline form, speaks to surrender, renewal and subtle transformation. It invites you to soften the edges of your story—to let heavy burdens melt away into the light. Pairing gypsum with pyrite (a metallic sulphide known for its spark and shine) creates a dynamic interplay: softness meets activation, release meets energised presence. In your postpartum journey, your training for the half marathon, or your current life transition supporting loved ones and rebuilding strength, this combination invites you to both rest (gypsum) and rise (pyrite). Place this specimen near your meditation pillow or bedside tray and allow its vibration to remind you: you are both resting and becoming; you are both letting go and gearing up.

The truth is, healing is rarely linear. At times you’ll need the gentle yielding of gypsum—moments of stillness, integration, deep breath. At other times you’ll resonate with the brightness of pyrite—moments of focus, forward movement, fire in the belly. Together they form a subtle ritual tool: when you feel heavy, hold the gypsum side and visualise yourself dissolving into ease; when you feel stuck, hold the pyrite side and visualise ignition and clear pathways. Over weeks and months, sense how your field begins to shift: the old tension becomes movement, the old resistance becomes flow, the old pause becomes readiness.

SCIENCE

In the Broken Hill region of NSW, gypsum and pyrite tell two different chapters of the same geological story. Pyrite forms deep underground within ancient sulphide-rich ore bodies, crystallising in the cubic system as iron and sulphur combine under heat and pressure. Over millions of years, groundwater, oxygen and weathering processes begin to interact with these sulphides. As pyrite slowly oxidises, sulphur is released and reacts with available calcium in the surrounding rocks. This chemical shift leads to the formation of gypsum — a hydrated calcium sulphate — often growing in soft, luminous blades or translucent clusters within the oxidised zones of the deposit. The presence of both minerals together captures a natural transition from primary sulphide formation to secondary evaporite growth.

CRYSTAL CARE

Although crystals have survived hundreds of thousands to millions of years (wow) in our earth they are still delicate and must be treated with TLC.

  • Gypsum:

    • Hardness: ~2 (Mohs)

    • Crystal system: Monoclinic

  • Pyrite:

    • Hardness: ~6–6.5 (Mohs)

    • Crystal system: Isometric (Cubic)

SOURCNG ETHICS & VALUES

At Uluna, we are deeply committed to offering crystals that are not only beautiful but also ethically sourced and of the highest quality. Ethical sourcing means ensuring that the crystals we provide are mined under fair conditions, respecting both the environment and the workers involved. We also recognise that many crystals undergo processes like cutting and polishing in  factories far away from their mined locations, so we remain diligent about maintaining our integrity throughout the supply chain sourcing locally and directly where possible.

Our dedication to quality is upheld by our in-house gemmologist, who brings over 15 years of expertise to every piece we offer. Each crystal is carefully tested, correctly identified, and certified as natural, with any treatments fully disclosed. Unlike lab-grown or misrepresented stones often sold as natural, our crystals are authentic and come with an authenticity card, guaranteeing their provenance and purity so you can feel safe with each purchase. For us, ethics and quality are non-negotiable values.
