The name Apophyllite refers to a specific group of Phyllosilicate minerals of similar chemical makeup and they vary in appearance and chemical composition.
Colour: Colourless, white, green, pink, yellow and can be transparent to translucent.
Geological occurrences: India, USA and Brazil.
Crystallography: Apophyllite belongs to the tetgragonal crystal system. Crystals can be tabular or prismatic occasionally showing a pseudo-cubic form. Crystals display perfect basal cleavage (due to a weakness in the atomic structure) and often show incipient cleavage planes, which appear as parallel ‘cracks’ through the stone.
Observations: Apophyllite crystals may be singular or clustered and often in combination with other minerals such as Stilbite, Heulandite, Quartz, Calcite, Gyrolite, Prehnite, Scolecite, Natrolite and Zeolites.
Stilbite and Mordenite belong to the zeolite group of minerals, the largest and most widespread. This complex group contains over 80 accepted species with multiple series in each. These minerals form in volcanic environments and exchange atoms to restructure and form the multitude of varieties.
Crystal system: variable
Apophyllite is a soft and brittle stone, cleaving and scratching easily so it must always be handled with care. If carrying small Apophyllite crystals with you, always keep protected in a padded pouch.
MOH's Hardness 4.5 - 5

Yes, our crystals are ethically sourced & sold.
Ethical mining/sourcing refers to the conditions in which a crystal is unearthed and the people and/or businesses that do it. Whilst a mineral may be sourced ethically from the earth, many stones are sent to factories in other countries for cutting and polishing into spheres and generators.
The label of ethics also applies to the selling and consumer purchasing.
Crystals must be correctly identified, certified as natural with any treatments disclosed. Too often crystals are lab grown or treated in a lab and sold as natural. This is incredibly important to us (and our in-house gemmologist) so each piece is tested and certified and accompanied by and authenticity card.
We pride ourselves on our crystal ethics, from earth to home.
